Easy vegan Churro Recipe with Chocolate sauce

Updated: May 3

No best time to make churro than the Cinco de Mayo festival. Also during the quarantine time since this recipe requires minimal ingredients. This recipe tasted just like the churro I remember eating at Cinco de Mayo. Crispy cinnamon sugar crust and soft in the center. I will include a rich and creamy chocolate sauce to go along the side with this amazing churro.

Video here:

Make: 10 (5 inch) Churros

Time: 30 Minutes

1 cup of water

1 cup of bread flour

2 tablespoons of olive oil

1 teaspoon of baking powder

2 tablespoons of sugar

Oil for frying

Chocolate sauce:

1/2 cup of simi-chocolate chopped

1/4 cup of none sweeten plant-based creamer (You can use any regular plant-milk. I use Oatly creamer)

1 teaspoon of instant coffee

Make cinnamon sugar by combine cinnamon and sugar on a plate. Set aside until it ready to be use.

1) On a saucepan, add in water, oil, and sugar and bring it to boil. 2) While the water is heating, in a separate bowl, sift in the flour and baking powder. 3) When the water is boiling, remove it from the stove and add the flour mixture. 4) Stir quickly until it forms a dough.

5) Transfer the dough into a clean bowl and stir the dough couple time to release some steam. Let the dough cool down on the counter for 5 minutes. 6) Transfer the dough to a star tip piping bag. 7) You can pip it in any shape or any size.

*Remember, the churro batter are really thick. I like to only use half of the dough in a piping bag. This helps me to squeeze the dough out a easier. *

8) Heat the oil to the temperature of 350F to 375F. *You can also test this by adding a little piece of a dough and when the dough quickly sizzling and float to the top, the oil is ready to be use.* *Don't add too many dough in one batch. You don't want the oil temperature to keep changing. * 9) Coat the churro in cinnamon sugar.

Make the chocolate sauce:

1) Heat the creamer until it steaming. You can heat it in the microwave or on the stove top. 2) Pour the creamer to chopped chocolate and left it sit undisturbed for 1-minute straight. 3) Stir the mixture until it turn smooth chocolate sauce. Enjoy the churro with chocolate sauce and you be all set!

Thank you.
